This book is a true story about a
nine-year-old Australian boy, who in 1932 rode his pony nearly
600 miles to be at the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. He
rode in the opening ceremony procession and became famous.
My illustrations were all done in pen and
wash and, as our little book was published in Australia,
everything was accomplished by email, which extended the usual
lines of debate and consultation between the author, publisher
and illustrator! The good news is that we all rose to the
challenge, Lennie had a great début and is doing very well.
I took a trip to Australia in October 2010 to help promote the
book and to meet some of the people involved.
